Scott Lloyd returns with a new novel that is sure to jar hard-line abortion supporters
The Undergraduate: a cautionary tale that may turn the abortion debate on its head
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The man the left loves to hate is back in the spotlight. Last year, Scott Lloyd drew the ire of partisan media, Hollywood, the political left, and the abortion industry when he prevented government funds from being used to destroy innocent human life.
In his role as director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Lloyd maintained that there is no obligation under the law or the U.S. Constitution for his office to assist undocumented immigrant teens in obtaining an abortion.
Lloyd has now released his first novel–a semi-autobiographical story that has been called the “Less Than Zero for the Millennial generation.” The Undergraduate is a cautionary tale of how the youthful optimism and naïveté of college life can be torn asunder by the sudden intrusion of adult responsibility and burning questions of moral culpability. The book pulls no punches as its characters wrestle with the physical, emotional, and spiritual fallout of today’s college party scene and hookup culture.
Drawn from real-life experience, The Undergraduate tackles some of the most explosive topics in America today—unplanned pregnancy, abortion, pornography, sexual abuse, exploitation, and religious faith—in a way that will appeal to readers regardless of their background.
Kathryn Jean Lopez of The National Review raves: “This book is clever and creative about our culture and the challenges we face. It’s a model and encouragement.”
As a result of Lloyd’s firm stand on behalf of the unborn, Lloyd and his family endured a barrage of attacks from the radical left because he refused to use his office to procure abortions for pregnant immigrants.
Lloyd became the target of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the ACLU, and pro-abortion politicians. News outlets followed him to work and to church—and advocacy organizations took out full-page newspaper ads against him. NARAL Pro-Choice America explained its efforts: “We need to remove and publicly shame these anti-choice extremists one by one—and we’re starting with Lloyd.”

ABOUT SCOTT LLOYD
After serving in the Trump Administration, Lloyd returned to the private sector—by his own choice—in June 2019. He is now taking time to promote his first novel, a book attacked as a political manifesto in partisan media before its release. The book, however, is actually a work of fiction. In The Undergraduate, Lloyd has accomplished something authentic, unexpected, and notably devoid of the politics that made him a reluctant political celebrity.
